"Castle" is nearing its season 7 finale, but the show's future is still uncertain without an official renewal order from its home network, ABC. Aside from the show's uncertain future, Stana Katic, who plays Detective Kate Beckett still has not renewed her contract in case the show gets a renewal order. This has led fans to wonder if Katic's departure would cause a change in the course of the show's uncertain future.
"Castle" fans felt reassured when ABC President Paul Lee previously told TV Line that they "want to see 'Castle' on the air for many years to come." Fans felt comforted to hear this news despite the lack of an official renewal order from ABC even though the show is nearing its season finale.
Fans, however, were still wondering about how the show would fare if its lead actress, Stana Katic does not renew her contract for the show. Katic plays Detective Kate Beckett in the series alongside Nathan Fillion, who plays Rick Castle. Fillion has already signed up for another season, but the former seems to have doubts about reprising her role for season eight.
The actress previously aired her sentiments to the same outlet and seemingly hinted that she would not be back for the next season. "I don't think that a show should overstay its welcome... If the character is complete... then I think it's better to stop when you're on top," she said.
Katic also fulfilled her promise to her fans and celebrated the filming of their last two episodes in a series of behind-the-scenes photos on her Instagram page. The 37-year-old actress posted 24 "Castle" photos before she went "radio silent." Michael Ausiello of TV Line, however, delivered good news for "Castle" fans and said that there is "encouraging news on the state of Stana Katic's 'Castle' negotiations."
Meanwhile, Seamus Dever, who plays Detective Kevin Ryan has also expressed his thoughts on the show's renewal. Dever said that "there's no indication that we're going to go anywhere" and that the renewal lies on "getting everybody back to the table."
If "Castle" gets renewed for Season 8, then it may have two slots to fill in if Stana Katic does not renew her contract along with a new showrunner to fill in David Amann's shoes following his exit from the crime drama.
