Gaming community mourns the death of game developer Rachel Bryk; Bryk suffered from chronic pain prior to suicide

Transgender game developer Rachel Bryk committed suicide on April 23rd following a series of comments from cyber-bullies taunting her to jump over a bridge. The 23-year old game developer known for her contributions on the Dolphin Emulator finally jumped from the George Washington Bridge after the attacks made against her sexuality.

Bryk contributed much to Gamecube and Wii emulators, particularly the "Pucca's Kisses," which was one of her favorites. However, the game developer, who also suffered from chronic pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia, left a comment on 4chan saying the she would be leaving the community as well as various sites where she was a constant target of trans-phobic harassment, based on a report from Vocativ.

With the news of her death, several memorials were posted by gaming communities especially those the centered around the Dolphin Emulator. The Dolphin Emulator Blog also posted a short message in memory of Bryk, who had given a lot to their community. The message read that "She was a very kind and helpful person, one of many to help guide me through the project when I first started to contribute to the program. Her contributions to both the TAS and Dolphin Emulator community were vast, adding multiple helpful and sorely needed tools to make Dolphin easier to TAS. Although I did not know her as long as the others, I know she will surely be missed by all of those who knew her," based on a report from GeekSnack.

Apart from the bullying the Bryk experienced in some gaming communities she joined, her friends speculated that it could be the pain she suffered from her rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia caused her to commit suicide. The game developer was also report for have scheduled a tweet that read "Guess I am dead. Killed myself. Sorry," based on a report from Inquisitr.

While there were many theories as to what was the true reason behind Bryk's suicide, the game developer would surely be missed by those that she was able to reach out through her work.
