Robert Downey Jr. was charming as a romantic lead in his past movies, but it's Iron Man -- which recently made a welcome crossover to the Captain America and Avengers flicks -- which resuscitated his career.
Now news has resurfaced that there will be a fourth film following the blockbuster success of the first three Iron Man movies, and Robert Downey Jr. once again takes centerstage attention. The early buzz came out as early as December 2013, then again during the last quarter of 2014, but at that time, Downey himself said there was no fourth movie in the drawing board.
To date, the rumoured news of a fourth instalment has persisted, and the lead star has stated he's open to the possibility of reprising the role of Tony Stark. While the actor evidently doesn't want to let "the cat out of the bag" yet, he has dropped hints on where Iron Man will make his next appearance. The clues, he said can be found in "The Avengers: Age of Ultron."
As for Tony Stark's characterization in future Iron Man flicks, fans are wondering if he'll be as 'awesome' as his previous portrayals. It's also a known fact that Marvel goes to great lengths to produce films with artistic integrity. On top of that, Marvel has made some brilliant lead casting decisions. Iron Man is among them.
Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man is engaging and lovable. There's a vulnerability about him, yet the character's strength is something that's hard to dispute. Marvel's production people affirm that there will be more Iron Man films, which is great news for movie fanatics. The release date of the fourth movie remains unconfirmed, though.
The real question is, will Robert Downey Jr. continue to feel at ease with the superhero movie genre and if so, what type of villains will he battle next? Or will he go for something novel for a change and hang his suit & gear, something that may disappoint his legions of fans and affect the profitability of the project?
