The game developer of "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter" criticized Microsoft's indie program and called the program "silly." Meanwhile, the game would soon be getting Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) support.
The Astronauts studio co-owner and Creative Director, Adrian Chmielarz, vented out against Microsoft's indie program. The indie program was criticized for requiring fees from small developers who wanted to be part of the program, based on a report from Ship2Block20.
Chmielarz said that "As any other developer, I think this is silly." He added that "we can see the philosophy from Microsoft didn't work. They tried and it didn't work. Please change and poof: you will have more indie games on you platform. In the meantime there are tons of indie games that can't be released on Microsoft's platform because they were released on another platform. That is just silly."
On the other hand, Chmielarz confirmed that they were currently remaking "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter" for Unreal Engine 4 from Epic Games, which would feature a range of tools for virtual reality (VR) creation, based on a report from VRFocus. He went on Twitter and said that "Ethan is being re-made in UE4. Worry not," after being asked on possible Oculus support for the game.
"The Vanishing of Ethan Carter" would be getting a PS4 version; this was thought as the reason behind the game's upgrade. On the other hand, Chmielarz did not give any hints if the game would also be getting PS4′s Project Morpheus HMD support.
The upgrade would be bringing more tools to the horror adventure game, based on a report from TheSixthAxis. The report explained that the tools "aimed directly at the kind of open world in which [The Vanishing of Ethan Carter] is set, and it looks simply gorgeous."
"The Vanishing of Ethan Carter" was released on Sept. 26th for the PC. The first person game focused on an investigation about a missing boy conducted by an occult-minded detective.
