Jeff Daniels has joined the "Divergent" franchise to play David, the archenemy of Shailene Woodley's character, Tris. Daniels is set to appear in "Divergent: Allegiant Part 1 and 2" and if the final film adaptation will stick to the book, he will be the one to kill Tris by the end of the movie.
After starring in HBO's "The Newsroom" for three seasons, Jeff Daniels is once again ready to lead a group of people but not as a news anchor but as the head of the Bureau of Genetic Welfare. The bureau is introduced in "Allegiant" as the people responsible for the genetically damaged and genetically pure experiments.
David was once secretly in love with Natalie Prior, Tris and Caleb's mother. However, when Natalie chose to join Abnegation and marry Andrew Prior, David was engulfed with too much jealousy and preferred to cut any connection with her. When David meets Tris and her friends, he informs them about the experiments they conduct in the lab. At one point in the book, he even offers Tris a board member position, which the latter accepts. "Divergent" book series diehards know that David is the one who killed Shailene Woodley's character but doesn't remember doing it.
After so many speculations about who will kill Tris in the upcoming film adaptation of the "Divergent" book series, Lionsgate chose Jeff Daniels to play the part. The 60-year old actor is the first new cast member to jump aboard the "Divergent" franchise. If the movie versions decide to stick on its source materials despite the petitions to change the ending, fans will see Daniels kill Woodley's character by the end of the final sequel.
Theo James, Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort and Jeff Daniels will start filming "Divergent: Allegiant Part 1" on May for a 2016 release. Daniels is the new addition to the "Divergent" cast and will appear in the final two film adaptations as the main bad guy of the series.
