'Infinity War' is happening indeed! 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' hit the theaters recently, and as many had forseen, completely dominated the box office since its release. The movie surely delivered beyond what fans had expected going into the theaters, but even this year's most anticipated summer blockbuster had its fair share of criticisms, especially that the movie did not end as it originally should have.
According to a report published by ComicBook.com last week, director Joss Whedon sat down in an interview with Empire regarding the fates of the characters in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron,' particularly that of Pietro Maximoff (a.k.a. Quicksilver), who was played by actor Aaron Taylor Johnson. Whedon said:
"We did actually shoot him in the last scene, in an outfit, with his sister. We also shot him, waking up, saying, 'Ah, I didn't really die from these 47 bullet wounds!' Actually, we shot something else with that, but... maybe I'll let you know about that later. But the intent was to earn this, and then you have to stand by it."
Based on Whedon's comments, it looks like they had someone else planned to bite the bullet. Speculations arose regarding who would die in the film after it was revealed prior to the release of the film that the Avengers would lose a member (with many believing it to be Hawkeye who would meet his end), but fans were not ready for the surprising twist that was Quicksilver's death.
Knowing the popularity of the twins in the comics, as well as the prevalence of the New Avengers storyline in the play at the end of the movie, did Marvel really make the right move in killing off Quicksilver?
While some fans are still pissed over Quicksilver's death, saying that it did not give justice to the character, Marvel had something else in mind. According to an interview that MTV did with executive producer Kevin Feige, Quicksilver's demise in 'Age of Ultron' was a way to show how serious the "repercussions of Ultron's actions were, as well as to solidify the Scarlet Witch's character."
Feige's comments do make sense, given how Pietro's death would become a huge motivating factor for his sister Wanda to become an Avenger and save lives, but a lot of fans still thought that this action was a huge waste of the character's potential.
'Avengers: Age of Ultron' is currently playing in theaters worldwide.
