Kensington Palace announced on Monday that Kate Middleton and Prince William's daughter will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge. Before the announcement, a 41 Royal Gun Salute was held at Hyde Park for the arrival of the royal princess. It can be remembered that the name "Charlotte" remained to be the top favourite among bookmakers.
Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, who is the fourth in line to the throne, was adapted from the middle name of Kate Middleton's younger sister Philippa Middleton also known as Pippa. Elizabeth was taken from the new royal baby's great grandmother Queen Elizabeth which is also the name of the latter's mother. It was reported that Prince William and Kate Middleton have informed the Queen about naming their second baby Elizabeth before announcing it to the public. Diana meanwhile is the name of her late grandmother Princess Diana. A report says many praised the royal couple for choosing names from both sides of their families.
Not only that, a source says there has also been a Queen Charlotte and Princess Charlotte in the history of the British Royal family. Charlotte is the female name for Charles, the name of her grandfather. Elizabeth is also Kate's and her mother Carole Middleton's middle name. Charlotte Diana is also the name of the daughter of Princess Diana's brother Charles Spencer. Spencer recently took to twitter his excitement that his 2 year old daughter will share the same name with her cousin.
