Will Agent Carter Season 2 have a different lead star in the person of Emily VanCamp when it is finally confirmed for a second season?
With the prospect of the fate of all shows for the season to be decided next week, and after it earlier hinted at Agent Carter likely to be cancelled, Forbes presented the possibility of VanCamp coming on the show to essay the role of a modern day Agent Carter, effectively saving the show from its dilemma of continuing the storyline in the original series.
The series showrunners have said Agent Carter was intended only for an 8-episode run with the finale tying up all loose ends in the storyline, fuelling speculations that ABC will not renew the series.
Hayley Atwell's Carter was well-received by critics and fans for the show's strong female lead character portrayal but failed in the ratings game. Online petitions for ABC to renew the series have been peddled in fan efforts to keep the show alive despite its commercial showing. TV By The Numbers' final season predictions even has the show running on a 35-45% likely cancellation although the site was quick to note they would not be surprised if the show actually gets renewed.
Enter VanCamp's Agent 13 character in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, actually an alias for Sharon Carter, niece of Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter. Agent 13 has not been confirmed to return in the next Captain America installment and so Sharon Carter remains with the CIA, very eligible to work as the new Agent Carter.
VanCamp's own Revenge series has just been cancelled, leaving her free to join the show if Marvel Television chooses to forego the continuation of the critically-acclaimed low-rating Atwell starrer in favour of a VanCamp-led new storyline following Sharon instead of Peggy.
A VanCamp modern-day Carter is also seen to solve the dilemma of high production costs incurred by the post-World War II America setting of Atwell's Carter.
KDrama Stars however, presents an alternative scenario keeping Atwell on the Marvel-ABC show, citing fan speculations and following on an Agent Carter Season 2 focusing on a Peggy and Angie relationship, or a Peggy and Daniel Sousa relationship.
The fate of Agent Carter Season 2 will be announced in the coming week.
