To say "Batman" is famous is an understatement. Despite his lack of extraterrestrial powers, many superhero fans still choose him over other superheroes because he is a human, who is motivated by his fear. 7 different actors have already donned the cape and the cow in the big screen since 1943. How did they fare? Find out below.
Lewis G. Wilson
Wilson is the youngest "Batman" to ever grace the big screen. At 23, he already starred in the 1943 "Batman" movie but failed to make a lasting impression. He was mostly criticized for his physique, which was described as "thick about the middle" by one critic. Wilson's other roles after the film went from easily forgotten to being totally unknown.
Robert Lowrey
Lowrey led 1949's "Batman and Robin" movie at 36. He only starred in one "Batman" movie but appeared on an episode of "The Adventures of Superman" in 1956, wearing the famous cape and cowl. It was the first time that the two popular superheroes shared the screen.
Adam West
Also known as William West Anderson, Adam West has played "Batman" the most in numbers, in different medium. He starred in the Cape Crusader's 1966 movie and also in the '60s ABC series. He even shared his voice in "The New Adventures of Batman" and "Super Friends." But before being a voice actor, he was typecast to being "Batman" and had to make public appearances wearing the bat-suit at one point to earn a living.
Michael Keaton
Keaton teamed up with Tim Burton for 1989's "Batman." The Birdman actor however, was welcomed with protests from fans who still remember the nightmare brought by Adam West's later portrayal of Batman. But Michael Keaton proved that he was not miscast for the role and was even loved by both critics and fans. The actors was again wore the cape for another 1992's "Batman Returns."
Val Kilmer
Kilmer was chosen to be the next "Batman" actor after Michael Keaton decided not return for another movie under director Joel Schumacher. Kilmer's portrayal as the Cape Crusader in "Batman Forever" got mixed reviews. Some said that it was not as good as Keaton's portrayal but "Batman" co-creator Bob Kane thought Kilmer was the best "Batman" actor at that time.
George Clooney
Clooney's "Batman and Robin" was considered to be the worst modern "Batman" film. Even the actor said that doing the movie is such "a waste of money." Despite the film's disastrous outcome, it did not affect Clooney's career as he is still one of the most sought-after actor up to this day.
Christian Bale
Bale starred in probably the most remarkable in "Batman" films and it is not because of their utter ridiculousness. Christopher Nolan did "Batman Begins", "The Dark Knight," and "The Dark Knight Rises" with Bale starring as the Cape Crusader. Nolan and Bale's threequel usually top a critic's rank of best "Batman" movie of all time. It was reported however, that Bale declined to appear in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" as the actor think that their trilogy "doesn't belong in any other version at all."
