‘The Winds of Winter’ Spoilers: George RR Martin Mum About ‘R+L=J’ Theory; Will Jon Snow Live On or Will He Die?

By

"Game of Thrones" is already catching up to George RR Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" with some fans believing that some scenes in the HBO series are already coming from "The Winds of Winter." Martin's fifth book, "A Dance with Dragon" ended with Jon Snow getting ambushed by his men at the Night's Watch, leaving many book fans wondering if Jon would live on through the sixth book or will that mark the end of his character?

Before the premiere of "Game of Thrones" season five, book readers were already aware of the fact that the series will surpass George RR Martin's books, which may even spoil the ending and who ends up with the Iron Throne before it lands in print. Martin, however, revealed to Entertainment Weekly that he hopes to release "The Winds of Winter" before the HBO series returns for season 6.

Martin's fifth book, "A Dance with Dragons" was released in 2011 and the book left fans with a cliffhanger when Jon Snow was ambushed by his fellow men at the Night's Watch. Will Jon Snow live on or will he die? Some fans, of course, would still want Jon to live on in order to verify if the theory about his parents was true.

This theory, famously known as "R+L=J" speculates that Jon is the son of Ned Stark's sister, Lyanna (L) and Daenerys' older brother, Rhaegar Targaryen (R). If this theory is indeed true, then Jon would have the rightful claim to the Iron Throne and according to Telegraph, this could completely change the structure of Westeros. George RR Martin has kept mum about fan theories and rumors surrounding Jon Snow's parenthood, but he admitted that some fans became so engrossed with the books that some of their theories were right.

"I want to surprise and delight my reader and take them in directions they didn't see coming," Martin said.
