Castle Season 8 could be taking the show in a whole new direction as two new writers have been brought to serve as co-showrunners. Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter are the two new co-showrunners confirmed for season 8. They will be taking over for David Amann, after he received the showrunning duties from the show's creator Andrew W. Marlowe after season 6.
Both Hawley and Winter have had previous experiences working on the show, according to TV Guide. Hawley initially worked for the show for seasons 2, 3, and 4, serving in multiple capacities such as producer, co-producer, executive story editor, all in addition to the writing work he has done.
After his run with Castle, Hawley moved on to work on both Body of Proof and The Following. Winter has more experience working on the show, having his hand in the creation and production of 125 episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Similar to Hawley, Winter has held several different positions on the show, exclusively within the production division.
In other cast-related news, the show's leading man, Nathan Fillion has already signed on to make his return to the show, but his known status is the rarity thus far. Others in the supporting cast have yet to announce that they will be making their return to the show, and even Castle's lead female actress, Stana Katic has yet to be confirmed for a return.
Negotiations between Katic and the show's home network, ABC, are continuing, but no new details about a deal have emerged at this point, according to TV Line.
Castle has been a reliable ratings-grabber for ABC since its premiere. Castle has most recently drawn in an average of 12.7 million viewers per week, but even the admirable performance has not saved the show from rumors of being canceled.
One of the latest rumors suggests the show could be coming back, but only for a shortened final season.
