OnePlus One Custom BlissPop ROM Update: How to Perform Installation

By

CyanogenMod has released BlissPop ROM update for OnePlus One. The unofficial ROM update is based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, which is currently available only to select Android Nexus devices.

The update is designed to address some bugs and improve performance of battery, among others. It is important to note that the custom ROM is only intended for OnePlus One (Bacon models). Trying it on others may only cause harm or destroy the device, reported The Next Digit.

To check if your phone model can receive the update, you can go to Settings>>About phone>>Model number. After doing so, download the correct OnePlus One driver, and install it on your PC. You should have your date backed up and make sure that your phone has at least 80 percent battery before performing the update.

Then, enable USB debugging: Go to Settings>>Developer options (Android 4.0 or newer). You may also check it through Settings>>Applications>>Development (Android 2.3 or earlier).

International Business Times warns that although the update is going to improve the smartphone's performance and the quality of UI experiences, doing so will void the warranty, disqualifying future updates. However, one can restore warranty by flashing the device with stock-ROM.

Before moving forward, make sure that the Bootloader is unlocked or that the device is rooted before going for the custom ROM installation.

Step-by-step procedure:

1. Download Android 5.1 BlissPop ROM to the PC. Using a USB, connect your OnePlus One smartphone to the PC.

2. Copy the .zip file of BlissPop ROM to the root folder on the SD card, then turn the device off. Boot the device into recovery mode. You do this by holding power and volume buttons simultaneously.

3. After you successfully enter the CWM Recovery, clear your phone memory by tapping Wipe Data/Factory Reset. To navigate, use the volume buttons and make selections using the power button.

4. Complete the process by choosing 'Wipe Cache Partition, and go to 'advanced' option to perform the 'Wipe Dalvik Cache.' This process is OPTIONAL but this is often performed to prevent installation errors.

5. Go to the main menu of the recovery and tap Install the .zip file from the SD card. And proceed with the installation process. To install Google Aps, you will go through the same procedure.

6. Make sure to complete the installation process. tap the 'Reboot System Now' in the recovery menu.

The device may take a few minutes to restart to complete the booting process. After this, confirm the custom ROM installation by going to Settings>>About phone.
