"Alien 5" is returning for the last time to properly say goodbye to the avid fans who were left hanging and maybe a little confused on the franchise's piles of crossovers and spinoffs.
Director Neill Blomkamp is the most excited about the movie confessing that he is a fan and that something went "wrong" after "Aliens" and this he would like to fix. Since there are virtually too many gaps to fill in the series, the "District 9" director possesses the creative freedom to sneak in his alien story to the part he feels most lacking. "There's a shitload missing as a fan that I would want to see."
That being said, the movie would most definitely be a midquel between "Aliens" and "Alien 3" to fill in the unexplained disparities, for example, to shed some light about Ellen Ripley's mysterious dream in hypersleep.
However thrilled Blomkamp on the movie to the point where he even made an art film about it that went viral in the internet, Fox might be a little hesitant on fully entrusting the movie to him, considering that the said director's movies suffered from poor reviews. One is Elysium on which he admitted that he "f***ed up" on that. His latest movie "Chappie" also had to endure not too positive feedbacks from critics.
In order to not disappoint himself and the fans, Blomkamp expressed his plan of new ways to go about the movie, even consulting with "Prometheus" director Ridley Scott who is also on the move to developing "Prometheus 2" so that the idea in "Alien 5" will not contradict the latter's and the first two Alien films.
"I changed the one thing [Ridley Scott] felt was bumping 'Prometheus' a little bit. One thing that makes me feel good about it is that Ridley is producing it. He likes the idea of what I want to make," Blomkamp happily relays to Empire.
The cast that are expected to return include Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley and Michael Biehn as Corporal Hicks. "Alien 5" whose official title is still being kept secret by Blomkamp to date is rumored to release sometime after "Prometheus 2" possibly on 2020.
