"Empire" is still a couple of months away from its season 2 premiere. While fans still have quite a long time to wait for Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) back on the hip-hop drama series on TV, Fox Chairman and CEO Gary Newman teases that season 2 will "blow away the audience."
Fox's hip-hop family drama, "Empire" is gearing up for season two after its season one finale ended with a blast. The critically acclaimed Lee Daniels drama received a total of 16.7 million viewers in its season finale and Fox chairman and CEO Gary Newman teased fans that they should watch out for season two, as the upcoming season is bound to blow them away.
Newman's co-chairman and CEO, Dana Walden added that "Empire" season 2 will see "amazing guest stars that have lined up to be on the show." According to Walden, the addition of guest stars in the hip-hop drama series will not only help draw more audience into the series, but will also help expand the story.
Ne-Yo has already signed to write a new and original song for the series and Chris Rock, Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz recently signed up as guest stars for "Empire," Time magazine reported. The outlet noted that the show is no stranger to guest starring big names in Hollywood, as season one introduced guest stars, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, and Gladys Knight.
"Empire" Season 2 will also have a total of 18 episodes, which is six more than the episode count from season one. The network also announced plans to split the season into two halves to give way for a midseason finale. While some people may think that it would be a wise decision for the network to move "Empire" to air every Thursday nights, Newman said that they would keep the show airing every Wednesdays.
"We want to thank and reward our fans by keeping it in that time period," Newman said. "Empire" returns with all new episodes for season two this coming fall.
