"Castle" Season 7 ends tonight and the show has been recently renewed for season 8. Despite getting an official renewal order from ABC, "Castle" fans remain hopeful that they would still see Detective Kate Beckett next season, as Stana Katic's contract remains under negotiations.
"Castle" fans had a lot of rejoicing to do after ABC finally ended growing speculations that the police procedural drama will be coming to an end in season 7. The network recently announced that "Castle" would be back on air for season 8 with Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter as the new showrunners.
David Amann recently vacated his position as showrunner after filling in for Andrew Marlowe at the end of season 6. According to TV Guide, Hawley previously wrote several episodes for "Castle" in seasons 2, 3 and 4 and has worked as producer and story editor while Winter has been working as the producer for the past five seasons of the series.
While "Castle" fans rejoiced over the news about the show's renewal for season 8, there remains the uncertainty over Stana Katic's impending contract renewal for the show. The outlet noted that Katic still has not renewed her contract for the series and negotiations are continuing.
Katic previously expressed her sentiments about reprising her role for season 8 and said that the show should not "overstay its welcome." The actress also seemingly hinted that she would be leaving the show after posting a series of behind-the-scenes photos from the set of "Castle," as a fulfillment of her promise to her fans to celebrate the last two episodes of the series.
While Katic's contract remains under negotiations, Nathan Fillion, who plays Rick Castle on the series, has already renewed his contract for season 8. Seamus Dever and other supporting casts have previously expressed their interest over reprising their roles for another season, but the state of their contracts remains unknown.
