The novelty is still present even as the new Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring movie "Maggie" contains zombies and "walking dead" to it, and while the film is currently playing in theaters, the 67-year-old actor sat down for an interview to talk about some details about his collaboration with Abigail Breslin. Meanwhile, the movie will also be out in home video this summer.
The Lionsgate co-produced film revolves around Maggie (Abigail Breslin), who has been infected by a zombie virus or "necro-ambulists" at the start of the film. Apparently, Breslin's character is not the only one infested, but also a portion of the country's population. And as a loving father, Wade (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a plaid-shirted farmer from Middle America, has to save her daughter from completely turning to a zombie. But that would require lots of sacrifices, of course.
While that sounds so mundane, the movie's promoters guarantee that this is not everyone's typical Hollywood blockbuster, or customary zombie movie. To back that up, the transformation from normal person to banshee takes place longer than the normal time frame suggested in most movies. Now, Maggie is still human, but in a few weeks, she will start to transform like the flesh-eating ghouls. Some parts of her body would chip and fester, causing wounds to show up in her skin.
After bringing her to the hospital, it was decided that Maggie will still be at home, but Wade is not lowering his guard as he keeps his shotgun close at hand. However, as Maggie's condition worsens, he has to choose among the three options to "discard" her: send Maggie to a government quarantine camp to rot, inject her with a drug for "mercy killing," or making it quick.
Wade has to manipulate the cards on his hand, or it would lead to an ill-fated predicament. Conversely, while the movie incorporates some zombie tinge, Daily Herald reports that "Maggie" is more of a family drama than an action film.
Moreover, to get to know more about the film's mainstay, the "The Expendables 3" actor sat down with Entertainment Weekly to dish out details about his role as Wade. Since most of Schwarzenegger's movies are action-filled, the actor admitted that he didn't know why he got involved in the family drama "Maggie." But then, he acknowledged that he was awed by the script. "I read it, and it was totally different, and it was very dramatic, and it was very sad. So eventually I just said to myself, 'Okay, it doesn't take that much time out of my life, so maybe now is the time to do something like this,'" the actor gushed.
Moreover, the former California governor also exclaimed that if he were to do the role back in the peak of his career, maybe he would not have liked it. However, due to maturity, things have changed already, needless to say. "Having kids, I can relate to it much better. So it all somehow came together," he finished.
After the May debut of the film, fans of Schwarzenegger and Breslin can enjoy the movie in home video as it will arrive on Digital HD this June 30 and on Blu-ray and DVD this July 7 from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. Aside from the actor, "Maggie" stars Academy Award nominee Abigail Breslin and Joely Richardson (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo).
