FOX's new thriller "Wayward Pines" opens with Matt Dillon as Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke searching for two MIA federal agents in a mysterious town in Idaho. The pilot episode is directed by M. Night Shyamalan, who also produces the show.

"Wayward Pines" season 1 episode 1 titled, "Where Paradise Is Home," unearths more questions for Agent Burke as he investigates about two missing agents, one of them is his former partner Kate Hewson (played by Carla Gugino), whom Ethan also shares extramarital flame with. A sudden turn of events happen after a truck crashes his car while he's on his way to the rural town to start his investigation. When he woke up, he found himself in the town's hospital with Nurse Pam (played by Melissa Leo) who seems to have a darker agenda.

A series of flashback in the episode also revealed Agent Burke's past that includes deadly bombing, which he carries with immense guilt. Back in Seattle, Ethan's wife and former Secret Service Agent trainee, Theresa Burke (played by Shannyn Sossamon) gets a call from her husband's boss informing her that Ethan was never in the car found on the road outside Wayward Pines. Unconvinced by the initial investigation, Theresa puts into practice her investigative skills and heads down to the town with their son.

Ethan will meet the Wayward Pines residents including the dubious Sheriff Arnold Pope (played by Terrence Howard), the charismatic Dr. Jenkins (played by Toby Jones), and Beverly (played by Juliette Lewis), a bartender who's also mystified by the town.

M. Night Shyamalan directs the pilot episode and also produces the show that is based on Blake Crouch's novel "Pines." Shayamalan has already dealt with early criticisms about his show being a ripoff of David Lynch and Mark Frost's "Twin Peaks." "The Sixth Sense" director answered that most of his influence are films from the '60s and '70s, where the film ends at the first act.
