LinX Imaging and Samsung to help iPhone 6s succeed; 12 MP camera, 2 GB LPDDR4, and improved Touch ID under works

By

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently gave a research note to investors, revealing 10 big improvements on Apple's upcoming iPhone 6s. The note pointed upgrades for the camera into 12 MP, a 2 GB LPDDR4, and improved Touch ID recognition rate. Further, companies such as LinX Imaging, Samsung, Hynix, and Micron Elpida were previously spotted forming business partnerships with Apple, implying that they will be playing big roles for the success Apple products, especially the iPhone 6s.

12 MP camera features by LinX Imaging technology

The closest rumor that had a connection with the iPhone 6s camera is Apple's recent acquisition of LinX Imaging. The Israeli camera tech company's specialty was making "multi-aperture camera equipment for mobile devices," which was deemed possible that Apple would use LinX Imaging's technology in their upcoming iOS devices.

A LinX Imaging-made 12 MP camera in an iPhone 6s may result to:

  • A camera that does not protrude.
  • SLR-like images in normal lighting conditions with low noise levels.
    • Brighter and clearer with significant noise reduction.
    • Clearer and sharper with less noise in indoor lighting.
    • Motion blurring is cut down in conditions where lighting is not optimal.
  • Less sensitive camera to the pixel crosstalk issue.
  • Depth Mapping for 3D Models
    • Create 3D scans of objects from simple photographs taken at multiple angles.
    • Determine the size of an object that's been photographed as well as its distance from another object.
    • Refocus an image
  • Different camera arrays
    • 1x2 aperture array can create low quality depth maps, improve low light performance, and produce better images.
    • 2x2 array creates high quality depth maps with higher dynamic range, improved low performance, and general image quality
    • 1+1x2 array creates depth maps giving focus input for the main aperture, resulting to ultra fast focusing even in very low lighting conditions.

The benefits of having a 2 GB LPDDR4 made by Samsung, Hynix, and Micron-Elpida

Previous rumors about the iPhone 6s's 2 GB LPDDR4 mentioned Samsung, Hynix, and Micron-Elpida as makers of the RAM modules. The upgraded RAM could make the device run two times faster than the LPDDR3, as well as maintaining power consumptions. Apple split the production through tapping Hynix to make 50% of the supply, Samsung with 30%, and Micron-Elpida to produce 20%.

Improved Touch ID and Apple Pay: Your Wallet. Without the wallet.

Apple was also rumored to improve Touch ID features, which was first introduced in iPhone 5s in 2013. In previous reports, Ming-Chi Kuo said that the upgraded Touch ID would give a "better and safer Apple Pay user experience by reducing reading errors." The feature was first made for security purposes, and then made it support the company's Apple Pay digital wallet in 2014 through the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. By these devices, users were able to scan their fingerprint securely and authorize Apple Pay tap-to-pay transactions. Hence, the Apple Pay slogan, "Your Wallet. Without the wallet."

The same reason was also tipped by Kuo recently for the next iPhone 6s, saying that the "recognition rate of the Touch ID will be improved further in a bid to promote Apple Pay."

Apple's iPhone 6s was expected to be released on September 2015.
