Sci-fi genius screenwriter, novelist and director Alex Garland already confirmed that he has already written the story for '28 Months Later.' It was said that he was not interested in making sequels, though he's aware he's already in the scene for making some. The 'Ex Machina' director though will not be involved in the movie '28 Months Later.'
The first movie franchise of the threequel released in 2002 was '28 Days Later' and in 2007 was '28 Weeks Later,' although Alex Garland only executive-produced the second film and did not write the script for it. His debut novel 'The Beach' also hit the big screens in 2000. After that, he had written the films 'Sunshine,' Never Let Me Go,' and 'Dredd.'
When asked about doing sequels, Garland said: "Sequels are generally done in a rush. It's done with a sense of urgency. The first movie, you spend a long time developing to get it over the line. The second thing, you don't. Your expectations are different and your motivations are different."
Actually, Garland never thought of making any sequels especially after the film '28 Days Later.' "The rights to '28 Days' were frozen, effectively, because they were shared between Danny [Boyle], [producer] Andrew [McDonald], myself, and Fox," Garland said. "After the second one, none of us really wanted to do another. Fox may or may not have, I don't know."
Garland's concept of '28 Months Later' will be used in the movie. He said: "Don't you think those are, in a way, better? Because there is no momentum now, and you've had an organic, real spark about where I can take this. And it just popped into your head, kind of thing. Rather than, 'Okay, I'm going to make a sequel.' "
There is no plot or cast yet that has been announced, neither a timetable nor director for the '28 Months Later.' Let's just wait for another set of details in the future. Though his directorial debut film 'Ex Machina' will release its Blu-ray and DVD on June.
