Leaking appears to be a bit more dangerous than what the people at VMC Games may have thought it was, as they have now had their Xbox Live accounts suspended after their supposed actions concerning the new Gears of War game.
For those who may be unfamiliar with the situation, over the past few days, videos seemingly showing in-game footage of a remastered Gears of War have been popping up online, and it is believed that folks involved with VMC Games are the ones behind the leaks.
Rumors of an actual Gears of War remake were making the rounds long before there was ever any video evidence present, according to Polygon. Despite the rumors however, Microsoft never officially issued any comment on the matter.
It wasn't until those videos popped up showing the game running on what looks to be the Xbox One, that people truly began buying into the idea that a remake was coming. Which takes this whole issue back to the current predicament of VMC Games, because testers working for the company who allegedly leaked those videos have had their Xbox Live accounts suspended, according to Forbes.
According to those affected, Microsoft has also remotely shut down their consoles, making them essentially nothing more than unusually expensive paperweights. The punishment will apparently be varied depending on how severe Microsoft views the offenses to be respective to each user, so there's also an element of uncertainty making the whole ordeal even more unpleasant for the leakers.
Microsoft however, is backing off the claim that they have completely rendered the offending Xbox Ones completely usesless, according to Kotaku. The company said that the Xbox Ones in question are only unusable online, so the owners who still want to play offline are still presumably free to do so.
Either way, Microsoft is making it incredibly clear that they are taking leaking issues seriously, which probably means no more new Gears of War footage until it's actually official.
