P.O.D. (PAYABLE ON DEATH) will soon be dropping a new single this month in preparation for their August release of their new concept album "The Awakening". With their new album locked and loaded, the band is all set for touring in the next few months.
P.O.D. are playing shows in the United Kingdom this May followed by a couple of shows in Russia. The band are playing three consecutive shows with Hoobastank and Alien Ant Farm in Y PLAS in Cardiff on the 15th, Academy 2 in Manchester on the 16th, and the Engine Rooms in South Ockendon on the 17th. The band will then fly to Moscow and play at Yotaspace on the 19th and then off to St. Petersburg to play at Glav Club on the 20th. The band certainly have been busy. And with their single dropping sometime this month, and a subsequent release of their new album The Awakening slated for August 21st, the band show no signs of stopping anytime soon.
Loudwire spoke with frontman Sonny Sandoval and the band's 20 plus year run in the music industry.
"As old as I'm getting, I still enjoy making music with my friends. We're family and we survived so much stuff. It really comes down to whether or not you love making music. Today, in this industry, there's no real fame to be had anymore. There's no real touring unless you're touring 15 months out of the year. [Laughs] For us it's important to maintain who we are and where we come from."
P.O.D.'s November 2014 release SoCal Sessions is a different approach to the usual hyperactive energy of the band. The SoCal Sessions is a collection of acoustically recorded tracks of the band's popular songs. With regards to the new album The Awakening, Sandoval says he's "digging it" and the band is excited. According to Sandoval, the band is trying a different approach with the conceptual album.
Sandoval also bestows some sage advise to the younger generation that want to pursue music. "My hope for young bands honestly is that they do it because they love it, they do it because it's real", says the seasoned musician. Music should be what you do out of love and passion.
P.O.D. are expected to drop their new single sometime this month. The band's new album The Awakening is slated for release on August 21, 2015. The band's North American tour kicks off in June 14 at Morris Performing Arts Center in South Bend, Indiana.
