Metallica is Slated to Headline the 2015 X Games; Details on Summer Tour Dates and New Album Released

By

Metallica has added another show to their short summer tour. The band will be performing at this year's X Games. Metallica will be performing in Europe at the end of the month before heading back to North America intime for their X Games headline set.

This summer's X Games will be held in Austin, Texas from June 4 to 7. Metallica is scheduled to headline on June 6 at the new Super Stage. This year will mark the first time that the band will be performing at the 20 year old X Games. The band sat down with professional skateboarder Tony Hawk to make their official announcement.

Last weekend, Metallica headlined the Rock in Rio USA festival debut in Las Vegas. The band isset to play a series of concerts in Europe towards the end of the month of May and at the beginning of June. Metallica will be at Gelsenkirchen, Germany for Rock im Revier at the Veltins Arena on the 29th, and Munich for Rockavaria at Olympiapark München on the 31st.

Then, the seasoned metal musicians will head to Italy for Sonisphere Italy at the Assago Arena on June 2nd, and then to Vienna for Rock in Vienna at the Donauisel Wein on June 4th. The boys will be back in North America in time for the X Games in Austin Texas at the Circuit of Americas on June 6. The boys will also be heading to Grant Park in Chicago on August 1 to headline Lollapalooza alongside Paul Simon and Florence Welch.

Metallica have a pretty solid, albeit short summer tour this year, quite possibly due to the new album that the boys have been cooking up after 2008's Death Magnetic. The band have been hushed on the progress thus far, only hinting that they've barely started on the project itself. When asked about the possible release date of the album, Lars Ulrich tells The Woody Wood Show:

"Compared to the age of the earth and the age of man populating this wonderful planet, it is very close by. I wouldn't hold my breath or skip going to the bathroom, but it's coming."

The long delay can be accounted to an unfortunate incident with guitarist Kirk Hammett misplacing his iPhone containing about 250 musical ideas, without a backup. Hammett says he still has hope that it will turn up somewhere, but with regards to remembering the riffs, he says he can only remember about eight of them.

The 2015 X Games will be held in Austin, Texas from June 4 to 7. Metallica will be performing on the Super Stage on June 6.
