The premiere episode for the upcoming second season of "Empire" was recently confirmed by Fox. "Empire" will air this coming fall season and the 18-episode show will be divided into two halves. The hit series will continue to air on Fox on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET. Fox co-CEO and co-Chairman Gary Newman explained why they decided to retain Lee Daniels' series on the same day and timeslot.
According to him, fans of "Empire" made it an appointment to watch the series on the same day and they are keeping the schedule same as a means to reward their loyal viewers, The Christian Times reported.
"Fans made 'Empire' an appointment on Wednesday nights all season long. We'd be crazy to move it and we want to thank and reward our fans by keeping it in that time period," he said.
In season 1, "Empire" only aired 12 episodes and two of which aired as a special two-hour season finale. With its upcoming return, fans of the hit series could see more of their favorite characters, IBTimes reported. Season 2 will also feature returning cast members, namely, supermodel Naomi Campbell, who played the role of Camilla Marks and former child star Raven Symone, who played the role of Jamal's ex-girlfriend, Christian Today noted.
Other series regulars that are slated to return include Taraji P. Henson, who plays the role of Cookie Lyon, Terrence Howard, who plays the role of Lucious Lyon, Jussie Smollett, who plays the role of Jamal Lyon and Bryshere Y. Gray, who plays the role of Hakeem Lyon.
As of late, no confirmation yet as to the direction of season 2 has been confirmed, but Newman teased that the events that will take place in the next installment could potentially blow the minds of fans.
"The stories we've heard for Season 2 already is just going to blow away the audience," he said. "Empire" season 2 returns to Fox this coming fall.
