PSN service down for both Playstation 3 and 4 owners at several points over the weekend

Just when gamers thought they had a weekend full of problem-free gaming ahead of them, the Playstation goes ahead and goes under.

Numerous users over the weekend reported issues with the service, and those reports came from all over as well. Users were utilizing Twitter, Reddit, and just about any online portal to make sure Sony knew it had a problem, according to Gearnuke.

Even the Playstation Network support page acknowledged the issues with the service, with the Account Management features basically being rendered useless while the connectivity issues persisted.

The Playstation Store is said to be the one part of the network that suffered most from the events, according to Express UK.

The issues with the Playstation Network took place at two different points over the weekend at the very least, inconveniencing a lot of players in both the US and the UK.

Both Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 users were affected by the network issues.

As of now, it appears whatever problems may have been plaguing the Playstation Network have been fixed, and it also looks as though a party is now taking responsibility for the DDoS attack.

According to Cinema Blend, the group Lizard Squad claimed responsibility for causing the problems via posts on Twitter. The Lizard Squad also claimed responsibility for taking down the Playstation Network and Xbox Live during the last holiday season, so it would not be all that surprising to find out that they were at it again.

The group has not limited their attacks to consoles, as they have also targeted Blizzard and Daybreak titles that were meant for the PC. Because of their actions, the FBI has chosen to look further into the dealings of the Lizard Squad, though it appears the group is unaffected by the agency's actions as of yet.

Lastly, the Lizard Squad also said they have more in store, so Sony and Microsoft may want to stay on guard.
