Disney CEO Bob Iger Mentions Plans on Star Wars and Marvel TV Channels, Superheroes and Ewoks to take center stage

Rumors are circulating that Disney is planning for a Star Wars or A Marvel channel, or both. It seems that Disney is planning to add more to their roster of TV channels, although they have not confirmed nor denied anything yet.

It seems that the TV business is not dead, as most people predicted at the explosion of the internet revolution. Even now that we are in the middle of the golden age of the internet, big companies are still willing to invest in the television business. Take for example Disney, one of the biggest names in the entertainment industry. Not only are they into movies and games, but they have a strong roster of TV channels, and are still even planning to add more.

Disney CEO Bob Iger was quoted at an investors call saying that the multi-billion company might create TV channels for some of their most popular franchises - Marvel and Star Wars. Disney's TV venture is obviously not deterred by the age of internet as evident on their growing roster of TV channels. To name just a few, they already have Disney XD, Disney Channel, Disney Jr., ESPN, and ABC. Adding two more won't be such a big deal, businesswise.

And the two channels they plan on adding would definitely rake in the fans (and the bucks). Marvel has a lot of titles, including the most popular superheroes today. A Marvel channel would be heaven for Marvel fans. They wouldn't run out of cartoons of animated series to show like The Avengers, Spider-man, X-men, Fantastic Four, Ironman, Captain America, and others. They even have an Avengers cartoon series already taking a regular timeslot over at Disney Channel.

Star Wars is also another popular franchise to create a TV channel for. TV adaptations of the Star Wars series have already been popular ever since, and those could be brought back again in this age and time. Remember that the Star Wars franchise also includes the Ewoks. And if there's one series that has a really large cult following that is not limited to kids, its Star Wars.

Although the said plan was only casually mentioned by Iger, the prospect is not impossible for a company like Disney. No other detail has been revealed yet, but if they do push through with the plan, it will most definitely bank on the fact that these two franchises have some of the largest fan base, so such a channel will definitely be very feasible.
