The upcoming sequel for the 1995 hit movie "Mallrats" was recently confirmed by writer/director Kevin Smith. According to Smith, the reboot will be entitled "MallBrats. The "Silent Bob" star also released the first draft of the script via his Facebook page.
"IT'S MALL OR NOTHING! 20 years in the making. 113 pages fulla old friends, new jokes and a bloody battle with Stan Lee! This is for you, Jim. Wish you were here... #MallBrats," he wrote.
Smith was referring to Jim Smith, one of the original producers of "Mallrats" who have always wanted to create a sequel. However, he passed away a year ago, IGN reported. Meanwhile, "MallBrats" is expected to feature the original characters from the first installment. However, Smith recently told Comic Book that Ben Affleck may or may not return to reprise his role.
"I have not reached out to him yet. I am waiting until we have everybody. There's two more people I want to collect, and that way I have everybody, and I can be like, 'Come on dude, even Gil Hicks is back," he told the publication. Smith was then asked whether or not the film would be cancelled if Affleck decides to not join the cast.
"The good news is that we can do it without him if we have to. The even better news is the place he would play is not like I would need him for a week, he's in an out. It would be quick," he explained.
"MallBrats" will chronicle the lives of Brodie Bruce (Jason Lee) and T.S. Quint (Jeremy London), who will be dealing with their romantic crises while hanging around at a mall, Cinema Blend reported.
The filming of "MallBrats" will commence next year. Other cast members who have confirmed to join the film include Shannen Doherty, Michael Rooker, Jason Mewes and Ethan Suplee.
