After Divinity: Original Sin's successful launch last year for PC, Larian Studios announced that the old-school, top-down RPG is coming back this year. There's no release date yet, but Creative Director Swen Vincke says he wants to bring it out 'very soon'.
Larian Studios also revealed that the game will feature a 'truckload' of changes, including a co-op play in the form of online and split-screen, and a new interface designed specifically for controllers. Full voice acting for the plot were played by award-winning voiceover artist, Alix Wilton Regan and Scottish actor Alec Newman.
"We went a little too overboard with it. We called it an Enhanced Edition, but I really think that we made it much more than enhanced," Vincke said.
The developer announced that as part of the original game's 'full makeover', the new edition is coming to consoles as well. Yes, PS4 and Xbox One are getting Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition which will run at full 1080p. Console gamers will enjoy additional hours of new quests and challenges, new locations to explore, as well as new endings.
Good news for existing players though, Enhanced Edition for PC, Mac, and SteamOS will come as a free upgrade. However, gamers will need a 64-bit rig (compared to 32-bit for the original) with DirectX 11 to run it. "Complete system requirements will be announced later," according to Vincke.
The first Divinity: Original Sin has sold nearly 1 million copies, and was applauded by critics for its mechanics and wealth of content. So expectations for the new edition is pretty high.
Larian Studios plans to reveal more details about the game at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2015, which is set to happen at the Los Angeles Convention Center in June. It has been rumored that Larian has multiple projects in the works.
