The following Person of Interest Season 5 renewal/cancellation update carries both good and bad sides. Of course, it is already obvious that the good news would be the series' renewal for a fifth season on CBS. The bad news would be that it would no longer be of the usual length, hence its non-inclusion in the upcoming fall schedule.
While the reasons for going with this change are not yet very clear, it was already announced by CBS that Person of Interest will be entering midseason. This leads to wondering whether this will boil down to the final moments of the TV series.
However, IGN takes a report on what Nina Tassler, the president of CBS, has to say in CBS' Upfront regarding this matter. She hinted on the possibility, pertaining to her discussion with the series' executive producers as she said, "We're having those conversations with the team right now."
She shows her interest in the show and how it is also coming together, with Greg Plageman and Jonah Nolan being able to contribute exciting ideas for the following season. On the matter if the series will soon end, though, she says that it is something that they will just have to see. She simply says, "It's always been a really smart, creative show. If it is [the final season], then we'll have a great ending."
With this change in the schedule of Person of Interest, the timeslot will no longer be the usual 10:00PM ET/PT on Tuesdays. The number of episodes, based on several rumors going around, would be about 13. It should be noted that this is not the only series to not come at the front of CBS' fall 2015-2016 schedule as other popular shows like Mike & Molly, 2 Broke Girls, Undercover Boss, and The Odd Couple, were also held up.
This was explained in Zap2it by Tassler, once again, that these shifts do not indicate an axing of the affected shows, but rather the fact that they are popular and established in their own right to be added to any fall schedule. She said "We felt kind of confident having those shows to premiere later in the season... It's literally a matter of shelf space... Those shows deserve to be on our schedule."
This Person of Interest Season 5 renewal/cancellation update gives the gist on what to expect for the CBS series. It would have fewer episodes, and it is likely to have a different timeslot. On the other hand, more updates are needed on what the plot will be; perhaps it will be more riveting with the squeeze in air time.
