Yet another Samsung Galaxy S6 version is set to arrive in the form of an Active model, a rugged version of the Korean tech company's 2015 flagship smartphone. As the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active release date is yet to be announced, it is only natural that its specs are still kept from the public except for the few leaked images of the device that originally came from Samsung's website.
This week, however, curious Samsung supporters may have clearer answers as a device profile with model SM-G890A was spotted by a Hungarian publication. Napidroid.hu, the site that came across the data, reported that the handset with SM-G890A model has a Quad HD (2560 x 1440) resolution and could be the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active. Given this spec, it could be assumed that the Galaxy S6 Active will have an equally powerful CPU and memory just like its peers.
Other than that details in terms of the S6 Active's screen size and other key specs are still hanging up in the air. If we'll take clues from the device's predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active, it could be possible that the water and dust protection feature will be brought back to the upcoming S6 Active handset.
Unlike with the Galaxy S5 and S5 Active, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were not launched this year with IP67 certification which supports those features. So it will not appear redundant (as it was with the Galaxy S5 flagship handsets) if Samsung does make the S6 Active dust and water resistant.
Samsung also features liquid crystal displays (LCDs) in the past for its rugged handsets, but it changed for S5 Active which sports a Super AMOLED panel. The current flagship handsets of Samsung also come with a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen with a screen resolution of 2560x1440 pixels.
In terms of battery the rugged version is said to have longer life as it is said to be powered with a 3,500mAh battery, and offers with at least 15 to 20 hours of battery life. The Galaxy S6 comes with a 2,550mAh battery which provides a 13 to 15 hours of battery life.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active has been confirmed to arrive for US network carrier AT&T. Other expected features include an Exynos 7420 processor with 3GB RAM, and 5-megapixel front camera and a 16-megapixel rear camera.
