Regardless of the non-existence of fan favorite Lando Calrissian in the upcoming "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" to premiere this year, fans should not worry as one of the scriptwriters of the upcoming sequel recently dropped some cues on the character's possible return in the next "Star Wars" films. To make it transparent, the screenwriter is implying that Billy Dee Williams' role is coming back in any of the three remaining sequels: Episodes VIII, IX, and X.
The much-anticipated "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is finally happening, and as much as it is exciting, there is a catch. One of the pitfalls is the fan favorite Lando Calrissian, played by Billy Dee Williams, not coming back in the sequel. And while that feels wretched, fans should not lose hope as one of the screenwriters Lawrence Kasdan sat down with Vanity Fair to hint that the character is returning in any of the upcoming sequels.
When asked by the interviewer if fans could still catch a glimpse of the iconic character, the scriptwriter responded with a promising intel. "Right now, there's no Lando Calrissian in this movie. But Lando I don't think is finished in any way, shape, or form," he teased. Kasdan is best known for his screenplay of the 1981 Steven Spielberg-directed adventure film "Raiders of the Lost Ark." And if fans seem dubious, this pronouncement of him holds a sliver of truth as he also co-wrote the script of the 1980 "Star Wars" film "Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back" and its succeeding sequel "Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi" in 1983.
Moreover, by stating that Calrissian is not yet finished in the franchise, Lawrence Kasdan has apparently implied that the character will be appearing in one or any of the next three remaining movies. As a brief crash course, the three upcoming sequels are Episodes VIII, IX, and X, which are due to release starting in 2017. Meanwhile, Disney is currently developing the "Star Wars Anthology Series," which starts with "Rogue One" in 2016. This series is a stand-alone, so seemingly, Billy Dee Williams will not be materializing in those films.
So there. Really exciting, isn't it? What do you think so far of Lando Calrissian's comeback in the upcoming "Star Wars" films? Do you wish him to have longer appearances? In the meantime, let's all watch out "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" premiering this December 18!
