No Man's Sky release update later this year is one hugely anticipated event, despite it being a complete mystery. Even after Raffi Khatchadourian revealed tons of details about the game in his "World Without End" article, the game's purpose is still to be uncovered.
Yes, the article stated the purpose - that is, to reach "the center of the galaxy, where the worlds and planets players explore will become stranger and stranger." But even that is a loose quest.
Objective
So what exactly would players do in No Man's Sky? No one can't tell yet, except that it is an open-ended kind of gameplay, said Hello Games founder Sean Murray.
There will be no classic motivation or whatever so that no one will have to say "One of three space stations destroyed!, or having a trophy pop up [when you destroy all three]." One thing's for sure, there will be a ridiculously upgrade/progression loop akin to Destiny's "End Game" only this will be set in space.
Interaction with Other Players
Given the infinite size of No Man's Sky universe, how often will players come across another human player at some point in the game? Murray answered by saying infrequent, an answer that could disappoint players looking for a multiplayer gameplay. Furthermore, he compared the game to Journey where players do run into other human players because that's part of the experience, but playing with friends is not what the game is all about.
Travel Time in Real Time
When asked how long it would take to travel from one edge of the game to the other in real time, he said it would depend on how clever a player is. Murray estimated that it could take 100 hours for a clever, good player to reach the center from the outside. What happens when player reaches the center Murray didn't reveal, but he assured that the game is not going to end there.
No Man's Sky exclusive release for PS4 just adds to the excitement considering that there are many console owners that went for PS4 for this game, add to it the frustration that other players had when Elite was exclusively released for Xbox One. And it's reassuring to know that Sony has its full support on this. Could it be the 'world changer' game that it projects to be? We would know when it's finally out in December.
