Google ‘more likely’ to choose Lenovo, Xiaomi, Huawei Nexus 2015 than LG, claim new sources

Previous rumors mentioned that Google would be releasing two Nexus devices this year, and that the company divided the work to two smartphone manufacturers. LG would be making a 5.2-inch Google Nexus and Huawei to produce 5.7-inch. However, sources at Taiwan's supply chain tipped that the search engine company is more likely to choose China-based makers, specifically Lenovo, Xiaomi, and Huawei, instead of having LG as one of their partners for the Nexus 2015.

Artem Russakovskii previously cited sources claiming that "there is indeed a Huawei Nexus planned, in 5.7-inch size." His sources also said, "What's more interesting, the source also mentioned a second Nexus phone this year - an LG, with a planned 5.2-inch screen size."

However, DigiTimes mentioned sources from Taiwan's supply chain saying, "But since LG has produced the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, Google is more likely to choose China-based handset makers as new partners, either for strengthening its presence in China or supporting the development of new production partners."

The sources mentioned three companies seen as candidates for the manufacturing of Google Nexus 2015. The first company that Google is reportedly considering is Lenovo. A partnership with Lenovo was said to strengthen the cooperation between the two companies after the latter bought Motorola. Xiaomi was also noted to be another candidate since former Google executive Hugo Barra could be instrumental in winning the partnership. Huawei was still in the list since they are performing well in "both the mature and emerging markets." Further, they could develop "handset solutions in house."

Among the three Chinese companies, the sources mentioned Huawei as a "strong candidate" in producing the Google Nexus 2015, which was also tipped by Artem Russakovskii's sources.

The flagship devices of Google's partner OEMs are usually made as references for the Nexus 2015, and the Huawei M8 is speculated to be one of the bases of the Nexus devices. The specs and features of the M8 was recently leaked and it was seen having a 6.0-inch screen, 2560 x 1440 resolution, octa-core Kirin 930 processor, 3 GB or 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB or 64 GB of memory, microSD support, 20.7 MP rear camera, 8 MP front camera, fingerprint sensor, and an Android 5.1.1 mobile operating system. Some of these specs would be modified for the Nexus smartphone according to Google's standard.

Whatever company that Google would choose to partner, two features are sure to be included in the Nexus 2015 devices: an Android M and Project Fi subscription.
