Koei Tecmo is releasing a "sequel" to 2014's Sengoku era slash 'em up action game, Samurai Warriors 4. Samurai Warriors 4-II is being developed by Omega Force for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Windows to be released on North America on the 29th September, 2015.
Samurai Warriors 4-II was released in Japan earlier this year, and is labeled as a hero-focused saga. Koei Tecmo also stated that unlike the previous Samurai Warriors, Samurai Warriors 4 and Samurai Warriors 4-II is focused in delivering a narrative that explores the various regions of feudal Japan. The sequel in particular is casting the spotlight on the characters themselves, and they tell stories through thirteen new chapters. The story will follow the nine characters from Samurai Warriors 4, three of them, are from the previous titles in the franchises. One of them is an original addition.
Samurai Warriors 4-II is not a sequel per se of Samurai Warriors 4. Instead, Samurai Warriors is a new take on the Samurai Warriors 4 gameplay experience and not an intended direct sequel. In this game, there are several new gameplay features, some are lifted from other entries of the series such as the Dream Castle mode from Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3, of which, there is an ability to create characters and more. Dream Castle mode pits the players to either survive for as long as they can, or beat the clock while fighting through an increasingly difficult levels. The new revamped core game mechanic has battle, action, and character development systems too.
The naming scheme may be confusing, but this is expected. Koei Tecmo is known for its absurd naming of its titles that get released outside Japan. For example, the Warriors games released in North American territories are one digit ahead of the Japanese counterparts.
Samurai Warriors 4-11 is going to be released in Europe on October 2, 2015 on the following platforms, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PC. For North America, the release date is on the 29th of September, 2015.
