"Attack on Titan" or "Shingeki no Kyojin" aired its season one finale episode in 2013, which left everyone with a cliffhanger. Fans have been anticipating for the sequel to the manga-based anime, but it looks like fans will have to wait until 2016 before the sequel premieres on the small screen.
During the opening day of the film, "Attack on Titan Part I: Crimson Bow and Arrow," director Tetsuro Araki announced that "Attack on Titan" season 2 will be released in 2016. Fans began wondering why the anime needed to take a long hiatus before it airs the next season.
According to Ecumenical News, "Attack on Titan" season 1 anime has already covered 34 of the 69 published chapters in the manga, which means that the three-year waiting was allotted to bring in more chapters for the series. The outlet cited that the first season has covered four story arcs including "The Fall of Shiganshina," "104th Trainees Squad," "Battle of Trost District" and "The Female Titan."
Given that the first season covered four story arcs, it would make sense for the second season to cover just as much story arcs. Unfortunately, the manga "Shingeki no Kyojin" currently has two story arcs released and the series will need to wait for more once they return for season two.
"Attack on Titan" season 2 will cover the "Clash of Titans" story arc, which revolves around the 104th Trainees Squad battling against a group of Titans who penetrate the wall. The outlet also noted that the current story arc, "The Uprising" will most likely be covered in season two. "The Uprising" follows the story of Erwin Smith who plots against the king for endangering humanity.
In the meantime, fans can treat themselves and relive the episodes from season 1 in the two-part compilation film titled, "Attack on Titan: Crimson Bow and Arrow" and "Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom."
