‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ sequel update: Creator of fake George Miller Twitter account responds; says ‘just playing for laughs’

By

A Tweet that went viral last Sunday claimed that there is going to be a sequel to "Mad Max: Fury Road". However, it turns out to be a fake. The creator of the false @GMillerMax account, Lenny Delowitz, explained the intention of it, saying that it was just "for laughs."

The post said, "Hello Twitter! Thanks for all the kind words written and said about the film. We had a lot of fun making it...there's more Max to come."

People though that this tweet came from director George Miller himself and that he is making an announcement that a follow-up film is coming soon. This was also picked up by entertainment news like Variety, with the post more viral by over 4,800 retweets. Others were also misled by the tweet with one believing that the "director has joined Twitter," and that it was Miller's first post.

However, representatives of the "Mad Max: Fury Road" director denied the authenticity of the tweet in an interview with DialMForMovies. This made fans disappointed.

The source of the Tweet was coming from Lenny Delowitz, creator of The Studio Exec, and he admitted about it. He also said that it was meant to be a joke.

In Delowitz' blog, he said that his "intention" was to create a George Miller account (@GMillerMax) and "write about how George was in line to direct Pitch Perfect 3 or that he turned down the opportunity to make Star Wars because he has an irrational fear of Harrison Ford." He understood that some might not like it, but he reasoned that it was just "for laughs" and should not be taken seriously."Most people get it, some don't," he said.

He also said, "I was just a comedian looking for an opportunity to make a few people laugh on one hand and on the other, a social media professional experimenting with a tool of his trade."

Upon checking the status of the @GMillerMax account, Twitter suspended it.

Nevertheless, a "Mad Max" sequel is also possible as the real George Miller recently mentioned of making series of sequels about the film. Miller reportedly shared, "We've got one screenplay [for the second film] and a novella [for the third]. It happened because with the delays [on 'Fury Road'], and writing all the backstories, they just expanded. [The second one] is called 'The Wasteland.' 'Mad Max: The Wasteland."

"Mad Max: Fury Road" already earned $109.4 million worldwide in its opening weekend.
