"The Vampire Diaries" lead actress Nina Dobrev makes her final exit in the show after six rollercoaster years of memories. The actress reminisces her precious time with the cast, who have now become part of her family, through Instagram posts.
She commenced with a picture of herself and Paul Wesley and captioned it, "In honor of my final episode of TVD tonight, and because it's Thursday...I'll be posting a Throwback photo every hour on the hour. It's been 6 amazing years...there have been a million great memories. Thank you to everyone who has joined me on this incredible journey. I love you all."
She followed the throwback with a collage of pictures taken during the very first season in which it features herself, Ian Somerhalder, and Candice Accola with the caption, "Tonight is the end for me so I'm taking you back to the beginning...Season 1."
She also uploaded some fan arts and fan mails that touched fans' hearts for her appreciation of their efforts. The pictures posted after were from the surprise farewell party that the cast did for her during her final filming.
The actress also expressed her excitement for another step in the right direction although it would feel "strange" not to be with her co-stars.
"I've loved working on this show," she tells Self Magazine for its June 2015 issue. "It's been such a crazy, awesome adventure, and I've been surrounded by so many people who I consider family."
Her workmates also conveyed their feelings in regard to her exit.
"I can understand as a TV viewer how emotional it is, because I get very emotional with my television," Accola, said in an interview The CW Upfronts in NYC on May 14. "We barely got through it! It was very difficult," adds Graham, sharing sympathy for the fans which are still having a hard time registering the situation.
Despite explaining that she "wanted Elena's story to be a six season adventure," some are still wondering whether Dobrev's departure has something to do with her ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder who has recently been married to Nikki Reed.
Speculations reveal that Dobrev and Somerhalder are not even friends anymore and that she couldn't stand being on the same show with the actor, even finding their scenes too awkward.
Her decision to leave does not end in itself, though, as this puts the show's future at risk. As how her workmate and friend Accola puts it, "Elena (Dobrev's character) is the heart of the series."
"The Vampire Diaries" season six officially ended on May 14. This was also Nina Dobrev's last episode for the show before her exit and will not be joining the season seven anymore, leaving the chance for the drama to say goodbye as well or let another character shine.
