Dragon Ball Super Manga Promo Art Reveals Different Avatar: Younger Saiyan Warrior Goku In Classic Orange Gi

Dragon Ball Super's new Goku illustration was recently revealed in promotional art intended for the manga version of the upcoming television series.

Manga artist Toyotaro reportedly executed the art for the extra-large August issue of V Jump coming out in June. Credit for the story is given to Akira Toriyama.

The Goku seen on the publicity art shows a slightly different avatar. Goku is a lot younger than his persona in recent movies. The blurb on the art says, "See fights that are beyond your wildest imagination."

As seen on the new official Dragon Ball Super website and twitter accounts, the full Goku wears the classic orange gi. The boots are also different and have not been seen in past movies.

Toyotaro is also the artist behind the three-chapter manga adaptation of the recent movie release, Dragon Ball Z: Fukkatsu no F (Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'). The same full look of Goku is reportedly also used to promote the film manga.

Dragon Ball Z original manga creator Akira Toriyama is responsible for the new storyline of both the manga and the new television series. Earlier reports recalled Toriyama was not involved in the short-lived Dragon Ball GT series. His return to the series is seen as the proper sequel to the original series.

Toei Animation releases indicate the new Dragon Ball setting is after Dragon Ball Z's defeat of Majin Buu in the 1989-1996 series but before the short-lived Dragon Ball GT series of 1996-97. It has been 18 years since the last Dragon Ball series was seen on television.

Dragon Ball Super reunites Toriyama with the voice actor for Goku, Masako Nozawa, who is returning to once again provide the warrior's voice.

The new anime instalment of the Dragon Ball Z franchise set at a time when earth is at peace. Goku will strive to maintain that fragile peace after the defeat of Majin Buu in the face of new more powerful villains.

Dragon Ball is acknowledged as one of the most popular anime series of all time. The series was seen in more than 70 countries around the world. Dragon Ball was originally a manga in the Weekly Shonen Jump (published from SHUEISHA Inc.) in 1984 and has sold over 230 million copies of its comic books.

Dragon Ball Super premieres Sundays of July at 9pm on Fuji Television.
