No doubt, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, Nexus 8 as foremost top-of-the-line Google products have been given attention by its mother company - though not without considerable delays. True enough, Android 5.0 roll-out is solid proof of such an unmistakable Google relations.
But as most everybody knows by now, most everybody who holds a Nexus device that is, Android 5.0 update failed miserably in the battery improvement department. Thus, in the hopes of specifically ironing out those past mistakes, another update was born: Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
Yes, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is on the roll. The much-ballyhoed update has been released by Google to the benefit of every Android devices. Smartphone or tablet.
And in classic Google fashion, these updates comes in waves. While the releases will not be rolled-out in one-setting where everybody gets to have their share of the updates all at the same time, certainly it will come to each and every device. But in intervals.
And Nexus devices should stand to gain most from this update.
A quick look back will tell us that a lot of Nexus users turned out disappointed as many Android forums held tons and tons of negative feedback over the Android 5.0 updates. Most especially true for Nexus 6 users.
Although other Nexus devices - Nexus 7, 9 and 10 - also had complications, Nexus 6 users were among the hardest hit when it comes to battery issues. Sadly, Android 5.0 only barely scraped the surface, largely unable to address the issue.
To note, there is still no official word from Google as to how the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop updates will proceed or specifically what devices will get it first. So, hold your horses.
In the meantime, here are a few quick tips to extend your battery life. Most applicable for Nexus 6 users and the rest of the Nexus device line-up.
- Graphic-intensive apps (e.g., games) devour your battery life like no other so be picky about using them
- For a quick look, check the battery section in the settings of your Android device and turn off apps that consume the most power
- A quick restart every now and then can be useful as it empties your device's cache
- Turn on your GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth only when you need them as these can eat your battery without you knowing it
