‘League of Legends’ Update: New System Geared for Faster Gameplay, Instant Feedback System, Two-weeks to Permanent Bans Punishment

By

Riot develops a new instant feedback system for League of Legends that punishes negative behaviors of players instantaneously- within fifteen minutes after a match ends. The League of Legends developer addresses verbal abuse of players through a new system that would give a two-week to permanent ban from the game.

League of Legends is currently developing a new system that aims to punish players who verbally harass others, which includes homophobia, racism, sexism, death threats, and other forms of excessive abuse that are not tolerated by the gaming community. Developer Riot Games shared, "When negative behavior occurs, we know that the faster a player receives feedback, the better their chances of reforming."

This is how the new player reform system of League of Legends works:

  • Teammates or opponents of the offending player sends reports and the system validates them to make sure they aren't false
  • The system examines the case and determines whether the behavior deserves rejection or punishment based on community-driven standards of behavior
  • The system fires a reform card through e-mail, sharing the chat log off the offending player and the punishment for the behavior.

The League of Legends' new player reform system features delivering reform cards or notifications to players that would link evidence of their negative behavior with appropriate punishment. The penalties include a two-week to permanent ban within fifteen minutes before the game ends.

The player behavior team for League of Legends is hands-on with the new system, particularly in North America and EU regions where they reviewed the first 1,000 cases handled by the instant feedback system. However, the Player Support representatives reportedly found some irregularities with the new system, they "saw false positive rates in the 1 in 6000 range". Many players predictably reacted against the roll out of the new system arguing that there is no human review involved in the process. But Riot is confident that the new system is good enough to launch to be applied in all regions soon.
