Demi Lovato relieved, diagnosed with Bipolar disorder

Demi Lovato admitted that being diagnosed with Bipolar disorder made her feel relieved. The singer recently became a part of the campaign "Be Vocal: Speak Up for Mental Health".

Lovato shared that she used to struggle a lot, before she was diagnosed with the disorder. She confessed to feeling very depressed growing up, "Even though I was playing concerts and living out my dream, I couldn't tell you why I was upset." She said. Lovato said that wasn't sure why she was upset. After she fought with one of the dancers during her tour, she reportedly hit the "rock bottom".

With her family's help, she sought for help, and that's how she learned that she was actually suffering with Bipolar disorder. "I remember smiling and thinking great, OK, so there's not anything wrong with me as a person," she said in a recent interview. "It's actually just a condition that I have and I can do something to fix it. I don't have to be like this forever." Lovato said.

She shared that she's now able to keep her mental health stable, and that she's feeling great, "I'm living well with my mental illness - I am actually functioning like a very happy person would, I'm living my dream. Life is pretty amazing." she said.

It seems like the disease isn't new to her, as her father also reportedly suffered the same illness, "I watched him live a very unfortunate life because of the lack of access to treatment," Lovato said. Her father passed away in 2013.

Lovato now wants to share her story to others, and help people not to be afraid of voicing out their mental issues. The campaign she launched involves 5 different mental health groups, and aims at encouraging people to use their voice in support of mental health.

Five years ago, Lovato was diagnosed with Bulimia, Bipolar disorder, and addiction to drugs and alcohol. She completed her treatment in 2011.
