Fox To Reboot ‘The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen’: The search for Alan Quartermain begins

Alan Moore's 1999 comic-book series that was adapted into the 2003 flick "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" is getting a reboot by 20th Century Fox.

The 2003 historical fantasy film starred Sean Connery as Alan Quatermain. The books combined the characters from several classic Victorian Age works of fiction into a tale of a group of, well, extraordinary literary figures.

These characters included Quatermain, Capt. Nemo, Mina Murray, Dr. Jekyll, and The Invisible Man, Hawley Griffin. The big-budget adaptation, was the thespian's last live-action role before he retired. "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" also starred Naseeruddin Shah, Peta Wilson, Tony Curran, Stuart Townsend, Shane West, Jason Flemyng, and Richard Roxburgh who were brought together by the British government to use their skills and powers and defeat a comment threat.

The first volume of the graphic novel has the group stopping a gang war between Professor Moriarty and Fu Manchu, while the second sees them facing the Martian invaders from "The War of the Worlds". Later volumes take the action well into the 21st century, and all are notable for including nearly constant literary references.

The 2003 film was conceived as a potential franchise, but it was dubbed as a failure by critics and the audiences alike, went on to earn a tepid $178 million. Fox later planned a TV series in 2013, "Green Lantern" writer Michael Green on board as showrunner and exec producer alongside Erwin Stoff. It never saw the light of day.

"The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" reboot is reportedly still early in the process, with Tracking Board noting that Fox is currently seeking a director, with no plot yet publicly known. John Davis will produce the remake through his Davis Entertainment banner, while it will be overseen by Ira Napoliello and Matt Reilly. Some of Davis's credits include "Waterworld", "I, Robot", "Alien vs. Predator" and "Chronicle".

A different kind of entertainment is expected as the gang of these "extraordinary" men conquer the small screens. Casts of this upcoming TV series are something to look forward to as well. Who will step on Alan Quartermain's shoes this time?
