'Silent Hills' PC release plausible shutting PS4, XBox One disappointment; New titles, teasers emerge to save game

By

After Xbox Head Phil Spencer dispelled rumors that Microsoft is buying Silent Hills, many are still hoping that the game will still be completed and finally get released. Though at the moment, the horror franchise seemed orphaned after Konami pulled the plug on development, it doesn't mean that the game is entirely scraped and is now silent forever: a PC release might be possible.

The glimmer of hope comes from its wide fan base and two big gun personages who are directly involved in Silent Hills namely Director Guillermo Del Toro and Norman Reedus. A petition in Change.org is clamoring Konami to resume game development and asking Hideo Kojima to support their petition. Currently the petition has over 100k signatures including Del Toro and has the support of Norman Reedus, whose likeness is used for the main protagonist of the game.

Guillermo Del Torro openly showed his support for the game and his dismay on its cancellation. The director said on IGN that they have a lot of new things in store for gamers had the development continued. Lamenting alongside him is Norman Reedus, the Walking Dead star, saying on twitter that he was "super bummed" because of the cancellation and openly supports the petition to reinstate the game.

Aside from fan support, the franchise is already a legend in the gaming world and the developer who will get a hold of Silent Hills will surely rake in the chips even with or without Kojima's input. The game's playable trailer "PT" is now already a rare gem in the gaming community even though the gameplay is short and confusingly hard. This only shows how immensely powerful the Silent Hills formula is and how lucrative getting such a franchise can be.

However, Konami did promised fans that they are "committed to new Silent Hill titles," even after their apparent shift to mobile gaming. Whether Konami will work on Kojima's Silent Hills or entirely scrap it and create another title is still unclear, but leaving such a powerful franchise go to waste is an eyesore not only to fans but to investors as well. Though Silent Hills is officially dead, the immense popularity of the franchise almost assures a revival whether in the hands of Konami or with a still unknown savior who will resurrect this beast in gaming history.

Silent Hills may suddenly appear as another title set for a PC or PS4 release in the not so distant future.
