Warner Bros. Pictures announced that Oscar award-winning actor Eddie Redmayne will star in the Harry Potter spin-off movie, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." Before the actor was chosen to star in the upcoming movie, Redmayne admitted that he felt bad that he was not chosen to star in the eight "Harry Potter" movies.
"The Theory of Everything" star Eddie Redmayne will drop off his Stephen Hawking persona and enter the wizarding world of Harry Potter in the spin-off movie, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."
Before the 33-year-old actor was chosen to play the role in the upcoming "Harry Potter" spin off movie, Redmayne confessed in an earlier interview that he felt bad about not being chosen to play a role in the franchise.
In an interview with BBC America, Redmayne was asked why he never seemed to appear in "The Hobbit" when almost every good British actor in the world starred in the trilogy.
"For a few years there, there were the 'Harry Potter' films. There was a whole family of ginger people. I thought somehow, I might be part of that. Never happened," Eddie Redmayne recounted.
Redmayne will star as Newt Scamander, a magizoologist "who in his travels has encountered and documented a myriad of magical creatures," described Coming Soon. "Fantastic Beasts" is neither a prequel nor a sequel to J.K Rowling's "Harry Potter" series, but the movie is rather an extension of the Wizarding World of Magic.
"Eddie is a fearless actor, brimming with invention, wit, and humanity. I couldn't be more excited about the prospect of working with him as we start this new adventure in J.K. Rowling's wonderful world, and I know she feels the same way," said David Yates.
The movie will take place 70 years before the story of "Harry Potter" began. David Yates will be directing "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" from a script written by J.K. Rowling. David Heyman, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram will be producing.
"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" premieres on Nov. 18, 2016.
