HTC unveils One ME with 2TB microSD expansion, 2K display, Helio X10 CPU; ‘hero’ smartphone coming on October

By

In order to improve HTC's performance, the company unveiled one of their devices on Thursday, the One ME, to be released in China. Further, they also teased about a "hero product" set for an October launching.

HTC One ME specs and features

The HTC One ME sports various specifications that are also found in the One M9+.

In China, fans will have 5.2-inch display with 2560 x 1440 screen resolution (which is also known as 2K), 2.2 GHz MediaTek Helio X10 processor, 4 MP UltraPixel shooter, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, a whopping 2 TB of microSD expansion, dual SIM capability for two nano-SIM cards, and Android Lollipop with custom Sense UI. There are also two BoomSound stereo speakers and a fingerprint sensor on the front as well.

On top of these specs, the back of the device is said to be the "most notable difference" is its back.

"Perhaps the most notable difference comes on the outside of the handset. The One ME's back is made of a soft-touch polycarbonate finish with aluminum edges. This presumably keeps the price point lower than that of its all-metal sibling," noted CNET.

One ME is the result of HTC's "product mix strategy for smartphones"

HTC One ME was said to be the result of the company's "product mix strategy for smartphones."

"The HTC One ME, unveiled yesterday for the Chinese market, is perhaps the first example of the company executing on this plan with it arguably taking the best pieces of two models - the One M9+ and the One E9+ - and mashing them together to make a better phone than their own," reported 9 to 5 Google.

HTC "hero" smartphone coming on October

It is uncertain if the One ME could help HTC to go back to its performance. The company was seen having its "share price falling to a 12-year low of NT$98," which was seen far from their accomplishment of NT$1,300 in April 1, 2011.

"Wang said HTC's performance was mainly due to its poor operational efficiency and overly conservative marketing strategy amid fierce competition in the global market," reported Taipei Times.

This led HTC chairwoman and chief executive officer Cher Wang to apologize to their shareholders.

"HTC's recent performance has let people down," Wang reportedly said.

In order to not "let people down" again, the HTC chairwoman shared their company's plan in launching a "hero product" in October. However, no details were shared about the said "hero product," except that it's going to be a smartphone. Further, they are also going to make "significant improvements in innovation and design for the next flagship model next year" as well as improving their "product mix strategy for smartphones."

As for the release date of the HTC One ME, the company is yet to announce it.
