A Xiaomi patent was recently leaked via a Chinese report showing a "fingerprint recognition method" through the device's buttons. The patent was seen at China's State Intellectual Property Office. On its Q4 release, the Mi 5 will come out with 5.2-inch 1440 x 2560 resolution QHD display, 2.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 SoC, MIUI versions that evolve with the user's needs, and many more.
iPhone-like scanner
The patent filing reportedly stated that the device was going to have a "bottom fingerprint sensor and optical sensor provided in the terminal equipment of the cover glass." Further, the main function of the patent is "for fingerprint recognition and touch buttons for Integration, improve the aesthetic appearance of the machine, to enhance the structural strength of the cover glass, and user-friendly." The fingerprint recognition/scanner is going to be covered with glass, which is seen to be a bit similar to Apple's iPhone Touch ID technology.
Xiaomi Mi 5 specs, features, release date
The fingerprint sensor is assumed to be included in the next flagship release of Xiaomi Mi 5, and, based on MIUI, will have the following specifications:

The device will be run by the Android 5.0 operating system. However, custom ROM community AOKP recently said that Team Kang was working on a major update. A new and refreshed MIUI 7 version will be based on Android 5.1 OS, which is going to have the MiKangy codename. The team also said that each MIUI version would "evolve with the user after a few months spent with the new ROM," resulting to a unique and personalized MIUI version for each user, depending on their needs.
For its release date, analyst Pan Jiutang estimated that the Mi 5 might arrive in the fourth quarter this year (around October - December).
