"Nightingale" Release Update: Lead Actor David Oyelowo Earns Postitive Reviews For His Performance In HBO's Pscyhocological Drama

"Selma" actor David Oyelowo's performance in HBO's latest small film "Nightingale" has gained mostly positive recognitions after its television debut last Friday, May 29.

Following his very remarkable and widely acclaimed performance as the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in Ava DuVernay's "Selma", David Oyelowo has wowed the audience once again in his latest movie "Nightingale". Oyelowo, according to Fast Company, plays the role of Peter Snowden, a war veteran who commits a heinous crime as he essentially battles a multiple-personality disorder.

Even though Oyelowo solely starred the one-location film for the whole 85 minutes, this did not stop his performance to astonish and impress its viewers, most especially its critiques.

AV Club's Joshua Alston calls Oyelowo's performance "bravura" despite the unsettling pyschological plot of the drama. "A single-character film rests squarely on the shoulders of the actor, and Oyelowo turns in a breathtaking, visceral performance made more impressive by the strenuousness of the role," he said.

Alessandra Stanley of New York Times even called Oyelowo's acting as "nothing less than amazing". According to her, the actor's performance "gives a riveting, disorienting and suspenseful tour of an unraveling mind," providing everything -voice, face, body -excellently to the drama.

Directed by Elliott Lester ("Blitz" and "Love is the Drug") from a screenplay by the first-time screenwriter Frederick Mensch, "Nightingale" premiered 9PM last Friday, May 29 on HBO. As per The Wrap's report, it is an HBO Films presentation in association with Plan B Entertainment; a BN Films production in association with Sea Smoke Entertainment and Yoruba Saxon Productions.

It is executive produced by Katrina Wolfe, Josh Weinstock and Elliott Lester, alongside Plan B's Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Brad Pitt. Oyelowo also executive produced the film with BN's Lucas Akoskin and Jonathan Gray, and BN/AG Studio's Alex Garcia as co-executive producers.
