Dragon Ball Super, the most recent installment of the Dragon Ball series is expected to come to the Japanese theaters this July 5. Although there hasn't been a confirmed date for the international release, recent updates as well as spoilers regarding the series has been circulating around the Internet.
A recent report has it that Hulu, Funimation and Crunchyroll are among the candidates for dubbing the series into English but with Funimation previously handling the dubbing of other Dragon Ball installation including the upcoming "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection "F" movie it seems like the winner has been already chosen.
According to reports the series will pick up a few years after the defeat of Majin Buu at the ending of "Dragon Ball Z". Also the series is said to feature new characters and the Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan form of the lead characters.
Dragon Ball Super is said to take place after "Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods" and "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection since both are also part of the Dragon Ball franchise. The series will be the first to be produced after 18 years following the Dragon Ball GT, which was first aired on the same channel, Fuji TV in 1996-1997.
Akira Toriyama, credited as the original creator of the series' story and character design concepts and will be handling the writing duties for the manga and will serve as creative consultant and supervisor for the anime series while Kimitoshi Chioka is the director of the series. Meanwhile, Toyotaro will be the one responsible for the manga adaptation of the series.
Dragon Ball Super put Akira Toriyama the series' creator on back on board while a recent report has it that Anime News Network had confirmed that Dragon Ball Z kai would officially end as soon as the Dragon Ball S starts.
Dragon Ball Super will be released in Japan on July 5 with the international release still undecided.
