Warner Bros. has recently signed "Furious 7" director James Wan to helm its forthcoming superhero movie "Aquaman" which stars Jason Momoa as the sea-dwelling superhero and has a 2018 release date.
Following the huge box-office success of his most recent film "Furious 7" which stars Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker, as well as his previous horror flicks such as "The Conjuring", "Insidious" and "Saw", James Wan is now set to direct Warner Bros.' next big superhero solo movie.
However, the 38-year-old filmmaker will not only be doing the directorial duties as Philstar reports that he will also reportedly supervise the script which will be penned by Kurt Johnstad, the writer behind the fantasy war-themed film "300".
According to Variety, the DC comic-based movie will tell the story of Aquaman, the King of Seven Seas and the "reluctant ruler of Atlantis". Played by the "Game of Thrones" actor, Jason Momoa, Aquaman will be caught between protecting his kingdom from man's interference and trying to keep control of Atlantis which is at the verge of a revolt. Committed to protect the entire globe, he will face the challenge of keeping balance between the two realms.
Greg Silverman, Warner Bros. president of creative development and worldwide production announced Wan's partaking on the film with thrill and excitement. "We've been so lucky to have worked with James; first on New Line's 'The Conjuring', and now, on their upcoming 'The Conjuring 2′, and are thrilled to have him on board as we continue to expand our DC state," he said. "The 'Aquaman' film will be a major tent pole picture for us, and James' span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of the project, bringing his incredible creative talent and unique voice to the material.".
"Aquaman" is being produced by Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, and Zack Snyder, and is set to be released some time in 2018.
As for James Wan, Daily Times Gazette reports that he is also set to direct Sony's forthcoming "Robotech" adaptation, which might follow the superhero film on his schedule.
