Sony Xperia Z3+ Arrives Last Week of June; Qualcomm Downplays Alleged Heating Issues While Sony Explains Renaming Unit

By

The latest smartphone offering from Sony, the Sony Xperia z3+, is expected to hit the world market towards the end of the month.

Reports indicate that the Sony Xperia Z3+ will be released in between June 22 and June 28 with a price tag of almost €700 (US$791).

Since being announced last month, the Japanese manufacturer's next flagship device encountered issues regarding its move to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 - which allegedly has overheating problems - and to rename it as Z3+ instead of Z4 in other regions.

When the stock camera application of the unit is used, it experiences heating issues which were supposed to have been addressed beforehand. Qualcomm, though, said that it has made the necessary adjustments to the chipset so that the problem would be non-existent upon the actual release of the Sony Xperia Z3+.

"The main reason for the name difference here (UK) is down to Sony being such a dominant force in the Japanese market [where] consumers crave flagship devices with the latest features as soon as they can be delivered. Xperia Z3 continues to perform well as our flagship device across the rest of the world. To address those customers that would like to have the very latest features and refinements, we have introduced Xperia Z3+ as a premium addition to our existing flagship Z3 series," Sony said in a statement to address the other issue about the naming convention of the device.

The Sony Xperia Z3+ made its debut in Japan in May. The 5.2-inch LTE-ready Sony Xperia Z4 has a 146 x 72 x 7mm dimension and 144g weight.

Behind its Android 5.0 (Lollipop) OS is a Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 chipset are two CPUs, a Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 and a Quad-core 2 GHz Cortex-A57, and an Adreno 430 GPU. It comes with 3GB RAM.

Its internal storage is 32GB, expandable to 128GB via microSD. The Z3+ has a 20.7MP main camera and a 5MP secondary camera.

Finally, a non-removable 2930mAH Li-Ion battery provides power to the unit. The Sony Xperia Z3+ is initially available in black, white, copper, and green.
