Homeland Season 5 News: Carrie will not be with CIA anymore; A lot of changes expected

By

Homeland Season 5 will be airing on our screen in Showtime this September or October with 12 episodes this season. Although there's still no official announcement regarding the premiere date of the series, the casts and crew are already filming for the new season.

There are a few additions to the cast in Homeland Season 5: Sebastian Koch, Miranda Otto, Alexander Fehling and Sarah Sokolovic.

They will be working alongside Carrie, portrayed by Claire Danes, who will not be working with CIA and will be in Berlin working with a private security firm. Koch will play Carrie's boss. Otto will portray the character Alison Carr. Fehling will be Carrie's boyfriend. Lastly, Sokolovic will be an American journalist.

Homeland Season 5 official plot synopsis is as follows:

"Season 5 will pick up two years after Carrie Mathison's ill-fated tenure as Islamabad station chief. Struggling to reconcile her guilt and disillusionment with years of working on the front lines in the 'war on terror,' Carrie finds herself in a self-imposed exile in Berlin, estranged from the CIA and working for a private security firm."

For the past seasons we know that the series are focusing to the plot of U.S. relations with the Muslim world. But it seems that the show will now be diverting there eyes from that plot. The president of Showtime, David Nevins, explained to press tour about the change of heart.

"It's a show ultimately about U.S. foreign policy, U.S. intelligence in the 21st century at a very difficult time. So we're exploring a few different possibilities and may change it up a little bit. The real franchise of the show is how difficult it is to be America in the world in the 21st century, how difficult the choices are. I think that's a story that will remain relevant for as long as they can come up with new stories."

With this, Nevins also explained what will happen to Carrie in Berlin.

Showtime president said that "she has a new purpose and passion and I can probably tease that that's not going to last long. She's going to have a relationship with German intelligence, and that's going to be one of the more interesting relationships this season because they are an ally, but it's a pretty rocky relationship regardless."

From what is mentioned above, there will be a new character, who will be portrayed by Fehling, that will be Carries boyfriend for Homeland Season 5.

So what will happen to her former beau? Quinn, who is portrayed by Rupert Friend, will still be in the show but with another love interest.

Meredith Stiehm said in an interview that "Carrie and Quinn have parted ways after they came together in the finale."

"Quinn was actually really ready to try things, but Carrie sabotaged it, and I think she regrets that. She tried to get him back and he was gone, so she knows she screwed that up. It's two years later, and they've both moved on to other things. But something's always in the air and when they cross paths again, we'll see what happens. I'm excited to see where their paths cross."

To some up all the changes that will happen to Carrie in Homeland Season 5, here's what Dane have to say:

"I think the idea is that she's left the CIA, she's utterly disenchanted and isolated, and during those intervening years, she's acquired an actual life, which she's maybe never had before."

Who is excited for Homeland Season 5? Premiere date of the series might be on October or September. It's still not sure but it sure is coming.
